Chic Jewelry Boxes with Ideal Attachments

If you are one of those who loves to create things, then making jewelry boxes would be a fantastic hobby for you. You can choose from a range of materials to make your boxes, like wood, leather, papier-mâché, bamboo, and so much more. But adding that final touch to your box are elements like hinges, clasps, and latches that you use to bring it all together.

Storage Boxes Baskets

Hinges form the base of any good jewelry box and there are a few basic types. You have the butt hinge that is generally used in vertical boxes that have doors. Once fixed, you will not be able to adjust them any further.

Storage Boxes Baskets

There is also the butterfly hinge used on doors made of lighter materials. There is the flush hinge that does not require you to cut into recesses into the box and is great for smaller constructions.

When you are putting together a wooden box you could think of using solid brass side rail hinges that help with lid support. These go beautifully with music boxes or humidors and small-sized boxes and cases. These hinges will have to be installed by mortising the side panel of the box.

It would be best to opt for gold-plated brass hinges to give your wooden boxes that classy look. The lid support will help prop open heavier lids as well. Make sure that the hinges you procure have a non tarnishing epoxy painted on.

If you don't want your hinges to be visible, you could go with the solid brass small box hinges that are specially made for this purpose. These are great for small boxes and will not be seen on the inside when you open the box. This is because the hinge will be mortised into the back of the box, on top and at the side.

If you are making a box that will hold movable trays then you will need a jewelry box tray support. These can be easily installed. A good tip would be to have them ready before you begin your project so that you can accurately gauge their placement and get a snug fit for your trays.

Locks and latches are also important factors to a good jewelry box. Protecting your belongings is important as well. You could opt for the half mortise small box locks which are simple and stylish and can be set easily with a home fashioned jig. There are full mortise locks available as well.

There are several other accessories that one can use in the creation of jewelry boxes. Necklace hangers in solid brass are a great addition to vertically designed boxes. They add a distinctive touch to the box and are solid pieces that will hold necklaces safely.

Jewelry box feet make for a perfect finishing touch. Decorative ones are great for small boxes and can be buffed to give off a shiny look. Most of these can be glued in place.

There are several ways in which a jewelry box can be created and enhanced. Your choice in accessories will determine how it will look in the end. So go ahead and use attachments that will make your trinket case stand apart from the rest!

How to Contain & Control Clutter in the Front Entry

A front entry should be an area that invites you in and provides comfort from the outside world, but if it's overrun with coats, boots and shoes, pet leashes, mail and backpacks, it's will seem more chaotic than comforting. If you want to redecorate your foyer to make it more visually appealing, the first thing you need to do is control clutter.

Storage Boxes Baskets

First, Evaluate and Relegate

Storage Boxes Baskets

Before you think about colors and beautiful accessories, think about how you and your family use your foyer. First consider whether you even need to use it everyday as you come and go. Would the back entry or an entry off the garage into a mud room or laundry make life a little easier by containing the mess before it enters the house? If so, you may want to change your family's habit of using the front door. We'll talk a little later about how to control clutter at the back entry.

If your family really must use your front entrance everyday, then you need to add storage that makes the space more functional. If you have a closet in or near the entry, empty it and reorganize it so that it can better accommodate all the coats and outdoor gear that is constantly coming and going. If there is no closet with convenient access, a bench with storage above and below can help get things organized. Some come with cubbies that offer storage for everything from hats to book bags. Decorative wall hooks can provide a spot for jackets, bags, and leashes and a table in the entry can be used with lidded baskets for handy yet discreet storage. Choose a table with drawers for even more storage space. A table also provides a convenient place to drop keys and mail each day. If shoes must stay in the front entry, a boot tray can help keep muddy messes from traveling beyond the front hall.

Back Door Solutions

Back entries can become dumping grounds for garden and pet supplies as well as toys, sport gear and outdoor wear. Your first line of defense is to store items elsewhere when possible: You really don't need your garden tools at the ready in the middle of February, so can they go to the garage or tool shed until spring? Surfboards in December and snow skis in July add to the feeling of disorganization, so switch and store elsewhere whenever possible.

A good size boot tray and wall hooks or bench and storage system are essential for keeping coats, scarves, bags and pet leashes close at hand but still neat and tidy. Pet food and garden supplies can be stored in stackable bins and shoes can be tucked on shelves inside a closet. Seasonal items, such as garden hand tools, can be kept in a bucket so that you can pick them up and go whenever you're ready. Wall shelves are an excellent way to corral small items in metal, wood or wicker boxes or to make a display of utilitarian items, such as vases, doggie biscuit canisters, or your fishing tackle box.

Comforter Covers Queen

A Place For Everything

So, you've made the decision to get organized, you've sorted through your belongings and you now have only items that you love and are usable. This may be for one small area of your home, a few areas, a drawer or two, or the whole house. However much you have done, it is an accomplishment no matter how big or small, so congratulations!

Storage Boxes Baskets

A very important aspect of being and staying organized is to have a place for everything. If you don't have a place for everything, then it all starts piling up again and pretty soon you're keeping everything because it's hard to tell what's what and what's where. Here's the scenario: You don't have a home for anything and whenever the mail comes in or you go shopping, you just put the items wherever you find room. Pretty soon, you have a mess! Believe me, I know; I've been through it.

Storage Boxes Baskets

I urge you to put some thought into making a home for every single type of item that you keep; this is so important! If you bring something new and different home and you don't have a place for it, make a place for it immediately or as soon as possible. If you don't have room, you'd better get sorting again. Here are a few suggestions on how and where to store some common items found around the house.

In the office:

Paperwork: A filing cabinet is a huge lifesaver when it comes to organizing your paperwork. I made files for every type of paper I had lying around, from movie reviews to our house papers and this has made my life a lot easier. I put these files in alphabetical order in my filing cabinet and now everything is put away, but even more thrilling is the fact that I can actually find a piece of paper in about five seconds! This is a huge improvement for me when before, I wouldn't even know where to begin searching for a piece of paper let alone have success in finding it.

Magazines: Cereal boxes are very handy for keeping magazines neat. To make a magazine holder out of a cereal box, cut off the top inch or so of the box, then, starting at one side of the top and cutting at a downwards angle, cut down half to one third the height of the box. Do this on the other side also and you will then have a magazine holder. At this point, you can decorate the holder by pasting pretty magazine pictures on it or painting it, then adding lace or ribbon. You can also put magazines in big wide wicker baskets.

Coupons: I have found envelopes very handy for storing coupons. Just label them the way you'd like them labeled (alphabetically or by type of food) and put your clipped coupons in them. The envelopes can be stored in a recipe or card file box of appropriate size.

In the closet:

Blankets: Laundry baskets make excellent holders for blankets that sometimes fit awkwardly on shelves.

Shoes: An over-the-door shoe hanger is a great way to get shoes off the floor.

Travel bags, purses and totes: Plastic storage bins are very handy for storing these.

In the craft room:

Crafting items: See-through plastic storage bins are a very good container for this because you can see where your items are and thus find things quickly.

In the living room:

Remote controls: A great way to store these is in small wicker or wire baskets.

Odds and ends: We use a wooden chest as a coffee table and it's handy because it doubles as storage. We keep some of our collectibles in there along with craft pattern books and other odds and ends. Another idea for this is to put a wooden or glass circle on top of a new garbage can. You would then drape a decorative tablecloth over the top of the circle. The garbage container can then be used to store your odds and ends and you would also have a decorative table for fresh flower arrangements or knick-knacks.

In the bathroom:

Miscellaneous items: Wicker baskets are great for storing a lot of items in the bathroom. You can put all your hair styling aids in a large one, washrags in another and cosmetics in another.

Medicines: For the medicine cabinet, I bought short, plastic drawer organizers that fit the shelves just right. I have one for headache medicines, one for cold medicines, one for owies (band-aids, ointment, etc.), one for stomach medicines, etc. This not only makes it easier to find items, but it also makes it easier to wipe the shelves when they become dirty.

Toilet Paper: I crocheted a toilet paper holder to hang right above the toilet, so when someone runs out of toilet paper, there should be a roll in the holder for easy retrieval. You may be able to find one of these at a craft bazaar.

In the Bedrooms:

Miscellaneous items: Under the bed storage organizers are great for storing seasonal clothes, Christmas wrapping supplies, gifts to give, books, and other items.

Kids Toys: The see-through plastic bins are great for toys because the kids can see what goes where. You can also mark the bin with a picture or word.

Crayons: Save baby wipe containers or coffee cans to store crayons in. If using a coffee can be sure there are no sharp edges to cut the children.

Once you have accomplished making a place for everything, you only need to train yourself and family members to put things away in the appropriate places.

Birch Bark - A Great Material For Crafting

Birch bark is a versatile material for seasonal arts-and-crafts projects.

Storage Boxes Baskets

Here is a partial list of the items which can be made with birch bark:

Storage Boxes Baskets

Baskets Rustic furniture Wall and ceiling panels Canoes Miniature canoes Pencil holders Lamp shades Place mats, Sign frames Picture and mirror frames Mail box covers Light switch panel covers Waste baskets Tissue box holders Storage boxes Flower pot covers Leaf wreaths

You may want to soak or steam the birch bark to make it more flexible prior to using it in your birch bark craft project. This will soften the resin within the bark which has hardened. Several layers of white paper may be peeled away on thick bark to make the remaining sheets easier to cut and fold. The bark can be attached to surfaces with white headed brads and/or wood glue.

Birch is usually available in the northeastern US from mid-May until October.

If you live in a rural area, you may be able to find a supplier who is removing bark from logs which will be used for lumber.

Birch Bark Crafting:

When your rustic decor includes birch bark picture frames you are able to bring nature indoors. Birch covered frames can be made from fallen trees. An inexpensive frame can be purchased and frequently old fallen logs can be stripped to provide plenty of bark. Remove any accompanying debris and insects. The bark should be dry as it will curl while drying. Hot glue and or white headed brads are both useful to attach the bark to the frame. Adding natural elements like twigs, acorns or cones makes for a nice effect.

When putting birch bark on a ceiling or wall it (the bark) should be attached to plywood and then the plywood is attached to the wall.

Circular birch containers can be made by sewing bark pieces together. Loose material can be removed from the bark and the bark can be rolled with he 'outside' inside if you like. Use a sharpened nail or awl to make holes for stitching material (cordage or rawhide). The end or lid should be made from seasoned wood to avoid subsequent shrinking.

Thorns can be used in lieu of nails to attach the bottom. A handle can be attached to the lid.

If you decide to make a birch bark basket you will need the following:

birch bark ruler pencil needle thread pins or staples.

Steps:

Soak bark in water. Trim to shape. Place on table and mark from corners so that they will overlap. (A good idea is to practice with a sheet of paper) You can then sew, staple or pin the sides together at each corner. An awl or sharpened nail works well to make needle holes if sewing.

The 5 Minute Guide to Organization and Storage for Kids Rooms

Keeping kids rooms neat and tidy is a tremendous chore. Not only do kids have a tremendous talent to destroy a room in the blink of an eye, but they also keep getting more and more stuff. Holidays, birthdays, parties, family reunions, you name it, the kids always come away with something in hand. Of course, whatever they received last is the-most-important-can't-give-that-away-ever-I-love-it-so-much thing--until they get the next thing.

Storage Boxes Baskets

In order to manage your kids stuff, you need to know which possessions have real meaning to them. These are those precious items that really are important. They differ from the other stuff in that they have lasting significance to your kids, and they would be hurt if these things were taken from them.

Storage Boxes Baskets

On the other hand, a lot of stuff that they get is truly forgettable and disposable. I've noticed with my kids that a new gift gets a lot of attention, but within a very short period of time they get bored with it and move on. This doesn't mean that they won't come back to it some time in the future, but I've gotten to be pretty savvy on what has lasting power, and what's "yesterday's news." This is where smart storage for kids rooms comes in. If you are successful in keeping the stuff down to a reasonable amount, then you can manage your kid's rooms, and the storage of the important things.

Of course, it's the smart and educational thing to include your kids in weeding out useless toys and junk, this teaches them responsibility. The problem is that they tend to have a warped view on these things. Show them a dust-covered plastic thingamajig that you found behind the furnace in the basement (doesn't really matter what) and the usual reaction is "NO, I could never part with that!!! I got it from that person at that thing that time... I love it and play with it all the time!" Sound familiar? I hate to be brutal about it, but organizing your kid's room is best done when they're out of the house.

Okay, let's say you've gotten through phase 1, and you've weeded out the junk. Also, take the time to weed out good toys that your kids simply have outgrown. Don't throw them away; give them to a charitable organization.

Now it's time to organize the stuff that stays into manageable and logical categories. First of all, books and reading materials. These have to be on bookshelves or kids book display shelves. Make them as accessible as possible. The books should be on eye level. Any extra shelf space that you might have on the bookshelves at the top can be for display toys or pictures. There are so many great bookshelves and display shelves nowadays for kids rooms, you should see what's available at The Home Shelving Guide to Kids Shelves. You'll also find great suggestions for kids storage units and even kids revolving bookcases. You are sure to find things to help you get your kid's rooms organized.

Next come games and toys. Obviously not everything can be at eye level and easily accessible, so try to figure out which toys and games are most popular. Anything that is stored higher up should be visible to the kids.

I'm a big believer in baskets and storage bins. While the containers that the toys come in are more colorful and eye-catching, they waste a lot of space since they are all different shapes and sizes. By transferring toys such as Legos or Playmobil pieces to uniform storage containers, you can stack them up and really organize your shelves.

Likewise, bigger items such as stuffed animals and dress-up clothes can be readily stored in baskets. Baskets are easy to handle, easy to work with, and are an economical way to solve your storage needs.

There are really nice cube shelves that are designed specifically to hold storage boxes and baskets. This way, you have an attractive and practical piece of furniture which will hold the boxes and add color to the room at the same time.

Wall-mounted shelves are also a great way to organize stuff. While they usually aren't very big, they have the extra added bonus of adding color and character to a room. Most kid's rooms have available wall space which you can take advantage of, and kill two birds with one stone. You can decorate AND store things at the same time.

It all starts with you knowing what's available to help you get your kid's room into shape. Once you have a good idea of what you need, and also a plan for organizing the toys, books, games and other stuff, all you need to do is be tough and do it!

Planning For More Storage In Your Kids Bedroom Design

Planning a kid's bedroom design can be a lot of fun. It can also be a daunting task as you tackle the issue of storage and making things easy to clean. Here are a few ideas about kid's bedroom design.

Storage Boxes Baskets

If the room is for just one child, choosing a single bed is the normal choice. If you have two kids sharing one room, bunk beds are the most practical choice. They save a lot of room since you don't have to allocate two big chunks of space for beds. Most bunk beds also separate into two beds, so you have additional options as time goes on. There are many beds that have an option of storage underneath in the form of drawers. Under bed drawers can also take the place of an upright dresser, which can help with small spaces.

Storage Boxes Baskets

Storage is usually a huge issue in kid's bedroom design. A nice big toy box is a staple of any kid's bedroom. Look for one that is of sturdy construction and has a lid. You want to be able to hide that jumble of toys away. For those little toys that have a tendency to get lost in the bottom of the toy box, purchase small, clear, plastic boxes with lids. Label them with a picture so your child knows exactly what goes in each box. This makes clean up a breeze.

If you do not want to use a dresser to house your child's clothes, try buying some coordinating baskets with liners. You can fill them with socks, underwear, pajamas, and pants. These baskets can be placed on a shelf in the closet for easy access, and all their clothes can be contained in one place. Shoes can be delegated to a special box in the closet or you can by a cloth shoe organizer to hang on the closet door or the bedroom door.

When planning a kid's bedroom design, consult with the child that will be living in it. If they love their room, they will be more likely to keep it clean. That means less mess for Mom to deal with! Ask them what color they want their walls, then give them a choice between two different shades that are acceptable to you. Take them shopping for accessories with you, and listen to their ideas. Remember, it is their room and they have to live with the results.

A cute idea in kid's bedroom design is to spell out the child's name in wooden letters on the wall. You can find them at many stores in all different colors and styles. This is a great way to personalize their room. Kids also love mirrors. Hang a full length mirror in their room so they can see what they look like. You can paint the frame to match your décor. Putting family pictures around the room is also a big hit, especially if your child is in a lot of them. It is also a good way to reinforce names and relationships of family members.

There are many ways to plan a kid's bedroom design. Make it a fun place to be that reflects your child's taste and personality.

Home Decorating - Creative and Stylish Storage Ideas

Storage space is an elusive concept, and the "perfect" amount is often just a little more than we have. The right amount of storage is like a carrot always dangling before us. And no matter what we do, it seems impossible to reach it.

Storage Boxes Baskets

Many of us equate "space"-such as closets-with storage. "If I just had one more closet," we say, "then my storage needs would be covered." Or we buy lots of plastic containers or other items traditionally associated with storage, thinking that if we buy enough of them, our problem just might be solved.

Storage Boxes Baskets

We believe the answer lies not in more plastic containers but in thinking about storage more creatively. Many of us believe that most of our things should be contained and hidden or, at the very least, put away. But you don't really need to hide your belongings unless you want to. If you're worried that storing things in plain view will look messy or cluttered, we assure you, there are many ways to avoid falling into that trap. Also, wouldn't it be great not to have to hunt for your winter coat, your roller skates, or extra bed sheets when you need them? The key is this: You need to create inexpensive, accessible storage solutions. We like to call it smart storage.

Creative Containment

When you have items that you need to store, do you automatically reach for cardboard boxes and stuff them until they are overflowing? While cardboard boxes might be fine for storing some items, they are not a very attractive solution, and for this reason, things stored this way tend to get pushed to the back of a closet where no one can see them-not even you. But what happens when you need something that's in the box? You'll have to move all your shoes and other items that get piled up around the boxes, and dig through to find what you're looking for. Does this sound like your system? But there are better ways to store things!

If you've never considered storing your belongings in style, perhaps it's time! The type of creative containment you opt for depends on several factors. First, you'll need to consider what you're storing. Clothing, for instance, should be treated differently than garden tools. Second, consider the location and the environmental factors of that location. If you have an unused computer you're storing, you'll want a location that won't get too cold or too damp, since these conditions could damage the computer. Third, you can begin thinking about the containers you'll use. Although plastic bins and cardboard boxes can get the job done, consider these more creative alternatives:

For Long-Term Storage:

Instead of banishing sweaters or off-season clothing to the back of your closet or stashing them in cardboard, try something different. Pick up old drawers at a flea market, paint or stain them to match or complement your bed, then add four rolling casters on the bottom so it can be moved around easily. Store each unit under your bed, and you're putting a little-used space to a productive use.

Tired of a linen closet that's overflowing? Purchase an inexpensive wicker hamper and store off-season linens in a closet. Beach towels can occupy the hamper in the winter, and flannel sheets can hibernate there during the summer.

For Short-Term Storage:

If you're short on bathroom space, use decorative hooks to hold baskets or bags full of toiletries.

Small shelves mounted over doorways or windows can hold items like books and collectibles.

Shoe bags are versatile receptacles that can store a multitude of things, from Beanie Baby collections to craft supplies to correspondence.

Small items (e.g., buttons, safety pins, etc.) can be stored in bulk easily. Purchase a few matching glass jars with screw-on lids. Glue the lids onto the bottom side of wall shelf, with the lids in a straight line with a few inches between them. Fill the jars with small items, and screw the jars on the lids. When you need a button, grab the jar and twist, retrieve it, then screw it back into place.

Another idea for storing lots of small items: Remove the label from an old paint can, paint the can all one color and decorate it with decoupage or paint markers. Use the cans to store belts, game pieces like dominoes, small toys photos-anything! Glue several paint cans together for an interesting storage unit.

15 Steps to a Clutter Free Home

It's time to get into the habit of letting go of excess stuff, rather than finding a place to stuff it. Having to walk around stuff or over stuff does not make for a peaceful living environment. Let's go room by room and take care of some of the most common clutter problems.

Storage Boxes Baskets

1.) Kitchen: ask yourself what items do I use daily?

Storage Boxes Baskets

These items really deserve the primetime space in your kitchen. They should be within arms reach in the best location available. Watch out for space hogs in the kitchen such as multiple coffee mugs, plastic bags and cleaning products.

2.) Next ask yourself how many of each of these items you need to have a reasonable amount on hand.

Do you have 6 of something but only use one. This is a common problem. Setting limits will help you maintain an organized kitchen easily. Any broken, stained or chipped items need to go.

3.) Donate or discard your extra items, or in the case of glasses or dishes store them in long term storage until needed.

That is only if you have room in or for long-term storage. If you already have a long term storage problem go ahead and get rid of your excess, unless its an item that you can not replace like grandma's good china, in that case get rid of something else and store grandma's china. Remember to periodically go through cabinets and drawers to purge extras and replace worn out or damaged pieces.

4.) Clear your counters: the most visible part of your kitchen.

Start by clearing all items into boxes or onto trays. Take this opportunity to clean your counters thoroughly. Now put back only the items that you use daily. Ex. Toaster, coffeemaker, crocks of utensils. Only display decorative items on you countertop if you have plenty of space to do so. Otherwise decorations in moderation should be on the walls to save valuable real estate in the kitchen.

5.) Discourage paper piles from forming by creating a RAF file or as some people call it an action file.

A RAF file can be anything that can hold 3 files or folders. RAF stands for read, act, and file. As paper comes into your house you need to use your RAF file to place each piece either in to read, to act (meaning you need to do an action) or to file. Each piece of paper you save is important for one reason or another so you need to be able to find it quickly. Then of coarse there is the trashcan, use it regularly. You can also set up binders with clear plastic pages for things like receipts, recipes, take out menus, school information and frequently called numbers.

6.) Clean off your fridge!

Scale down or eliminate old refrigerator magnets or at least move them to one side. Clear everything off the front, put important items such as take out menus in a binder or in your RAF file. Save your kids best artwork in a plastic bin with their name on it, be sure to write their age on the back with an acid free pencil or acid free pen that you can find in the scrap booking section of any store. Once the fridge is clear, only put back current items.

TIP: Keep a wipe off calendar on the front of you fridge, update it the 1st of every month from you pocket calendar that you keep in your pocketbook or briefcase. That way you won't miss any appointments or meeting or double schedule yourself.

7.) Bathroom: Clean out your medicine cabinets.

Dispose of expired medicines and toss bottles of perfume, lotion and nail polish that are almost empty. Keep on the products that you like and use. Don't keep products that you either didn't like or were not effective just because of what it cost you. In the long run they cost you more in space wasted.

8.) Clean out stuffed drawers.

Ok we have all done it at one time or another shoved one more item into an already full drawer. Now it's time to change all that. Go drawer by drawer take everything out and ask yourself "Do I love this?" Do I need this?" Why am I keeping this?" The answers to these questions will tell you what you need to do. Then you keep it, donate it or toss it. By lightening up your drawers you will reduce stress and be able to find the things you need faster and easier.

9.) Clear bathroom counter.

It makes it so much easier to get ready in the morning and reduces stress when your bathroom counters are clear. This is also a time save because cleaning is a breeze. See tip #12 for the solution to where to put all the stuff you cleared off the counter.

10.) Use your wall space.

If you're hard pressed for storage solutions look to your walls. There are many options to create storage and reduce clutter on countertops. Ask yourself is there anywhere that I can add a shelf or shelves? Maybe a wall soap dish or toothbrush holder. Look on EBAY for hotel towel holders they hold 2 bath towels, 2 hand towels and 2 washcloths each.

11.) Create a peaceful retreat.

Most bathroom tubs and showers seem to be over flowing with bottles of shampoo, conditioner, bath toys and body washes. Again start by removing all items; clean the surfaces well with a soap scum-removing product. Then only put back the products that you use on a daily basis. Consider getting a shower caddy if you don't already have one and a stick on basket or bag for the kid's toys.

12.) Make personal bath totes.

Each member of your family should have their own container to store and transport their own personal bath items. This container can be a small plastic crate, a wicker basket or any other small container that can hold your items neatly. Placing each family members items in their own container makes it easy to store these things under the bathroom sink or in the bathroom or in the linen closet until they are needed. This also keeps their personal hygiene items together making it easy to find their comb or hair detangler and its no problem to move to another bathroom when company comes.

13.) Create a peaceful haven.

Your bedroom should be a place where you can rest. It is not the place to do work or other stressful activities. Do not allow things not related to sleep to accumulate there. This room should contain a bed, dresser, nightstands, lamp and maybe a chair or bench. Do not over crowd your bedroom with furniture it will make it feel small and will not promote peace. Your nightstand should be clear except for reading glasses (if you need them), a book or magazine (just one, not a pile), alarm clock and maybe some tissues. Start by clearing the room of all excess stuff, only put back those items that promote peace and rest. Donate or store extra items elsewhere.

14.) Remember the one in one out rule.

Once you have your house down to where it looks and feels good for every new item that you acquire you will need to donate, sell or give away one item. One for one, it's the only way to maintain the balance that you have achieved.

15.) Place 4 containers in your laundry room.

There are 4 containers every laundry room should have. Three of them can be boxes, bags, laundry baskets or whatever you have on hand. The last one is a trashcan. Label your containers, donate, mending, rags and trash. The donate box means that you continually separate out items that are past their prime but still have some wear or are too small. The mending means that you need to do a small repair. Rags means they have holes or bad stains so you can use them to clean or stain furniture, cotton or wool clothing make the best rags. The trashcan is for items found in pockets, dryer lint and other trash. This way it doesn't pile up on your dryer eventually making its way to the floor.

There you have it 15 steps to a clutter free home.

Baby Keepsake Boxes For Memories

If you're about to have a baby (especially your first one) you've probably already begun looking into purchasing a baby keepsake box for him or her. It's a smart investment, something you'll be able to keep for the rest of your life. There are simple boxes you can buy or there are more deluxe gift sets, but there are a few things you'll want to be sure you have.

Storage Boxes Baskets

Some sort of memory book would be a good basic item, so you can keep a running diary of what your baby did and when. Some books have stickers you can use to mark their first steps, first words, and so on, or you can just write them in yourself. Some of them also have pockets you can use to hold pictures accompanying the event too. I recommend you capture your own thoughts in writing, as future readings will bring the memories back even stronger.

Storage Boxes Baskets

Many of the boxes have small drawers to keep things in. This could be anything, from a lock of hair from your newborn's head, or the first tooth they lose, or nail clippings even. Any of these are good suggestions to save, and as a new parent you'll probably go a little overboard, but that's okay.

Finally, some parents like to store their child's clothing as well. This would be more special event clothing, like what they wore when they came home from the hospital, or their baptismal outfit, first birthday outfit, or practically anything else that has sentimental value to it. You can get these outfits specially stored in airtight boxes if they have a lot of value to you, or can simply be stored.

I consider baby keepsake boxes to be more like a collection of memories for you and your child to enjoy, when they get older. By keeping a variety of things you can make it even more special.

Where to start

There is a huge variety of products online. Consider who the gift is for and you can start to narrow down the possibilities. Think of hobbies, likes and dislikes, family history, work, pets, family, kids and so on.

Once you get brainstorming, you'll see how many possibilities there are. For inspiration, browse photo lifestyle sites like Shutterfly.com, Photoworks.com, and KodakGallery.com.

To design and create your own photo book, all you need is an account at a photo printing site, like Shutterfly. Use their online tools to upload your photos and drag and drop them into page layouts. So easy. Every size of photo book as available, from large studio albums (12x12) to small purse size brag books. Some Great Apartment Storage Ideas

We know the common scenario: The junk is piling up and space is running out. We have all been through this routine umpteen times and living in an apartment with all this junk can prove challenging when looking for places to store things.

Storage Boxes Baskets

You can only stuff so much in your closet before the door busts off its hinges. It's time to stop shoving things in boxes in the closet and use some of these creative storage and organizational ideas that will help you keep the junk under control.

Storage Boxes Baskets

Wall Shelves- Take small storage pieces like a two shelved shoe organizer and attach them to the wall to create wall shelves that can easily house books, collectibles, and other little conversational items.

Mobile Storage Unit- Find a cheap plastic multi-level storage shelf unit and attach some easy to attach casters or wheels to the bottom. Add a few small containers and/or bins to those shelves and suddenly you have a rolling organizational masterpiece ideal for storing shoes, socks and undies, tools, and other small items.

Storage Bench- This is my favorite storage idea! Basically, get a hold of an old upper kitchen cabinet or even buy a new one from Home Depot. Add some feet to the bottom and attach seat cushions to the top. Suddenly, you have an awesome sittable piece of furniture with storage space underneath the seat.

Stacked Bench Bookshelf- How about this: Stack three colored simple wooden benches on top of one another against a wall. Throw a standing clock on the top and line each bench below with books like a bookshelf. Make sure and add some attached support from the wall and, viola, you have a standing bookshelf.

Organized Entryway- When you come into your apartment, think of all the junk you bring in with you. From coats and hats to phones, mail, and keychains, the amount of stuff that you bring in with you and empty from your pockets far out number the junk going out. So, keep it all close to the entry. Line you entryway walls with hooks to hang coats, keys, and hats. Set up a small shoe organizer to keep those muddy foot pieces on the linoleum floor. Install some hanging drawers and a wall shelf to store the mail, tax write off receipts and other small pieces that get lost anywhere else in the apartment. Add a piggy bank or a cool change jar to the mix to chunk all the spare change that dump out of your pockets. Lastly, put a small, tasteful waste basket near the door to rid of the candy wrappers, unneeded receipts, and other bits of trash before it enters your lair.

If you are having some organizational issues and your apartment is getting cluttered from random items of junkness entering your abode everyday, try a few of these ideas to get things organized. The organized entryway and the storage bench really upgraded my living and lifestyle. If you can only try a couple. Try those!
